Austin Cline on Christian Abuse of Women

Austin Cline of Atheism.About.com offers even more evidence of Christian-sanctioned abuse and subjugation of women. And this time, the problem is even admitted by the Archbishop of Canterbury! In the article, Austin offers an excellent analysis in the Christian abetting of domestic abuse against women, and he does so in his usual hard-hitting, fact-of-the-matter writing style that I love so much to read.

But I'm not going to quote any of it. You're just going to have to click on the link and read the article for yourself. You will be glad you did.

Arron,

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, for speaking out about effects religion has on women and men. It is men like you that makes the world a better place and gives a hard core feminist like me hope. We need more men in the world like you. Keep up the good work. :D

I honestly have a hard time trying to respect any woman who practices or belongs to any religion. But that's because I'm a humanist.

Why dont you actualy have a Christian women from the mainstream comment on whether she feels disrespected, abused, or less of a women because she is believes in and practices Christian roles for the family.

Your not allowed to use members of sects or cults for your example. In fact, why dont you just invite someone from a large church like Saddleback.com or something. There seems to be a misinformation campaign going on to paint the actions of a few on to the many.

Also, can you please direct to your section on abuse of Muslim women?

What is really amazing to me is, the most unhappy, angry, and hatefull people I meet are Liberals, Atheists, and Humanists, not all, but most. Maybe I am just having bad luck. They constantly complain, bitch, and show discontent with their lives. Why is that?

Thanks...

A great story that illustrate how Christianity robs the strength of women and basically takes away their voice and abiblity to stand up for themselves... read "The Hiding Place" by Corrie Ten Boom.

Ever hear of stockholm syndrome? Your request is akin to asking an avowed communist why communism dooms nations to failure!

Your not allowed to use members of sects or cults for your example.

Cult, religion, whats the difference? Just the size of the organization, thats all.

In fact, why dont you just invite someone from a large church like Saddleback.com or something. There seems to be a misinformation campaign going on to paint the actions of a few on to the many.

There are many instances of repression of women from mainstream sources. The late Jerry Falwell is known for his supression of womens rights, for example.

Also, can you please direct to your section on abuse of Muslim women?

Your wish is my command! here is a post about Islams repression of women, and this is another websites anti-women islam section.

What is really amazing to me is, the most unhappy, angry, and hatefull people I meet are Liberals, Atheists, and Humanists, not all, but most.

Care to provide some specific examples? Strangely, I have not had this experience myself. In fact I find it to be quite the opposite among the people that I know. I can assure you, anonymous, that since I lost my religion, Ive never been happier :)

Maybe I am just having bad luck. They constantly complain, bitch, and show discontent with their lives. Why is that?

Just a shot in the dark, but maybe its because they are oppressed?

Thanks...

You are very welcome. Hope this helps!

I'm not quite sure I understand. The Bible specifically calls man to love his wife as Christ loved the Church and to give up his life for her in the same way that Christ gave up His life for us. It also says that man and wife are to become one flesh and that man is to treat his wife as if she is himself since they have become one flesh through marriage.

If someone is following these commandments then they can't possibly abuse their wife. Just because SOME people disregard the doctrine and divert from what Christians have been called to do, doesn't mean that Christianity lends itself to abuse.

Additionally, if one were speaking from a relativist perspective wouldn't it be much easier for that person to not only commit acts of abuse but to justify them since, for them, all truth and morals are relative?

If one follows both of these belief systems to the letter it is only possible for the relativist to actually abuse their wife without compromising their "morals"

This all makes sense to me. Please point out any place where I have not held to the correct process of logical thinking.
