God Told Her to Smash Her Sons' Skulls

On mother's day weekend in 2003, Deanna Laney received a message. The message she received was a command for her to kill her three sons, Aaron, Luke, and Joshua.

That message came from none other than God Himself.

Being a woman of faith, Deanna Laney could not resist following God's command, at least not for long. As she kept procrastinating, God warned her that each delay would force her sons to die more horribly. Deanna didn't want that, so she figured the best thing to do would be to get it over with:

Laney knew she had to "step out in faith." She had to trust God, and she believed that God would use her brutal deed to do something great. He had done such things in the Bible. Then when Laney woke up before midnight on May 9, she knew that the time was at hand. She had already hidden a rock in Aaron's room, so she went there first.

Lifting the rock, she hit Aaron hard on the skull. He began to cry, alerting her husband, Keith. He asked what was wrong and Laney kept her back to him to prevent him from seeing what she was doing. She assured Keith that everything was okay. But it wasn't okay. Aaron was still breathing, so she put a pillow over his face until she heard him gurgle. She silently told God that He would have to finish the job.

Next Laney went after her other two sons. She took Luke, 6, outside first in his underwear and smashed his skull by hitting him repeatedly with a large rock. Then she dragged him by the feet into the shadows so that Joshua, 8, would not see him. She left the stone, the size of a dinner plate, lying on top of him.

Joshua was next and Laney repeated to him what she had done with Luke, placing them together in a dark area of the yard.

Afterward, she called 911 to report, "I killed my boys."

When the police came, they found Aaron still alive. He was taken away and it eventually became clear that both his vision and motor skills were severely impaired.

Outside, the police saw Laney standing still in blood-stained clothes. She indicated where she had left the boys and they found the bodies lying beneath large rocks. Both boys had serious head wounds. Laney was arrested, leaving her bewildered, horrified husband to wonder what had happened.

While the secular progressives of the world may condemn poor Deanna, she honestly did what she had to do. God commanded it, and what kind of Christian would she be if she didn't follow in the footsteps of Abraham? The only difference here is that God didn't change his mind just before the weapon fell, but hey, that's God's prerogative. As the forensic psychiatrists involved in the case explained:

...God showed her that if she didn't do this, things would be worse...

...her actions were being directed by God as a test of her faith and that she was giving her children to God at the time she stoned them...

...Laney thought she had done the right thing and "expected to go to heaven for sacrificing her children to God..."

Laney apparently also felt a spiritual connection with Andrea Yates, which isn't surprising considering that God in fact did choose both of them to serve as warriors in His war against the child demon soldiers. It's just like the War on Terror, except that the "terrorists" are now under the age of 10, play with Pokemon instead of AK-47s, and come from your own womb (or seed as the case may be).

Whether you are in the U.S. Army or in God's Army, the old slogan still applies, "Yours is not to wonder why, yours is but to do or die!" And Deanna Laney definitely deserves recognition for her faithful service in God's Army. Deanna did, and her children died. As a result of her heroism, Deanna is now a commissioned officer in the Offspring Murder Club!

Hat tip to Sacred Slut (from A Whore in the Temple of Reason, a blog that I totally just added to my blogroll) and Say No to Christ for filing Deanna's Offspring Murder Club application.

Awesome post! Great job on pointing out the horrific details and how she was being told by god. God believers are a truly scary bunch.

And I LOVE that blog name, a whore in the temple of reason!

I am terrified of Christians. When I am around them in public I always try to watch what I say. If I say something wrong, they may try to kill me at any moment! HELPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rock of ages....

Sorry.

There is something truly disgusting about this kind of mental illness. One wonders, what names she would attribute to the voices in her head if this biblical meme had not been planted there? There is motivation and denial in the background of such "instructed" acts. As sorry as I am for those children, I am also relieved in a way that they did not breed.

'Do something great'?!?!?
It's enough to make a strong man weep.
These kids would've been better off w/a gay couple.
Instead, crazy-ass xtian momma considered them better off dead.
Sometimes I wonder if we should force a mental acuity test on people - make sure they're fit to reproduce.

Wow, thanx for all the great comments everybody!

Angelsdepart, I totally feel ya. I can understand why you are so terrified of them especially after the literal Hell on Earth that you've had to go through :(

And yes A Whore in the Temple of Reason is a good blog. The writing is very good. I hope that blog enables comments soon!

Aw, you're so sweet. :) Thanks for the link.

I'm apparently just too damned dumb to turn the comments BACK ON! You can email me thru my profile though. Eventually I will either figure it out or start over with a new comment-enabled blog.

Deanna's story is so sick and sad. And yet, how do Christians know god DIDN'T tell her to kill her children?

Anonymous,

True, except for when He commands it, like He did in Ex 17:13, Ex 19:12-13, Ex 21:15-17, Ex 22:18, Lev 20:9, Lev 20:10, Lev 20:11, Lev 20:12, Lev 20:13, Lev 20:14, Lev 20:15-16, Lev 20:27, Lev 21:9, Lev 23:29-30, Num 31:1-40, Deut 2:33-36, Deut 3:3-6, Deut 12:30, Deut 13:1-5, Deut 17:2-7, Deut 17:12-13, Deut 22:22, Deut 22:23-24, Josh 7:10-12, Josh 10:28-32, Jodg 20:35, 1 Sam 15:2-3, 2 Sam 5:19-25, 2 Chron 15:13, 2 Chron 23:6-7, Is 13:3-5, Jer 48:10, Joel 3:10, Ob 8-9, Mic 4:13, Zec 8:10, Zec 14:13, Mat 5:17 (where Jesus says that Old Testament rules to kill people still apply), Mark 7:9-10, Acts 3:23, Acts 5:1-10, Rom 5:9, and quite a few other instances that I need not list here; I think this list is long enough already.

But the grand finale is Lamentations 4:10-11 where God says that he MAKES WOMEN EAT THEIR CHILDREN.

So the contention that God commanded the death of these three boys in Texas is consistent with scripture.

Anonymous, in reality it is BOTH you and I that are right. God surely DOES forbid killing, but ironically he also COMMANDS it. He commands it often, and He will surely command it again. Its a good thing he doesnt exist, isnt it?

Aaron Kinney said...

Heres an extra funny twist:

God forbids murder, but commands killing. And a murder is only an unlawful killing, so its kind of a redundancy or tautology.

So this woman in Texas did KILL her children (which God commanded), but she didnt MURDER her children (since that is forbidden by God).

Incidenally, Ive had many an argument with many a Christian over whether the commandment should be translated as "kill" or "murder" with the vast majority of Christians insisting that it should be translated as "murder."

God commands against killing and murder except when he makes exceptions for it. Then it is OK. When does he make his exceptions? Whenever his followers think he is making one. Whew! Now I'm confused too. Let's get away from the bible and go have a tequila.

AK - Mat 5:17 (where Jesus says that Old Testament rules to kill people still apply)

Matt 5:17 - JC - Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

Clearly he is fulfilling the Law by upholding it. Jesus broke none of the 10 Commandments; the only human being to succeed in upholding the Law. He also fulfilled the prophecies, some 360 of them.

Death, by the way, marks the end of natural life. But if God is supernatural , and we are his supernatural creation, would natural death still have the finality that you are presupposing?

I came across this verse:

Psalms 137:8-9 O daughter of Babylon, who are to be destroyed,
Happy is the one who repays you as you have served us!
Happy is the one who takes and dashes
Your little ones against the rock!

I never said that Jesus broke any of the ten commandments. I never said anything about the prohpecies either. All I did was use Biblical references to show when God commanded killing by his human creations, thus invalidating your earlier claim that God forbids killing.

This little statement by you about prophecy and commandment breaking has nothing to do with any points I made in these comments.

Death, by the way, marks the end of natural life. But if God is supernatural , and we are his supernatural creation, would natural death still have the finality that you are presupposing?

LOL so in other words you are asking me that if I presuppose there is a life after death, would my presupposition about the finality of death no longer hold?

Hahahahaha no I guess it wouldnt.

Well lets flip it around then for the sake of fun and also for the sake of helping show you how pointless your question was. Let me ask you this: "If God and His supernatural afterlife didnt exist, would death still have the non-finality that you are presupposing?"

Hey Aaron, a possible candidate for the Offspring Murder Club here. Details are still sketchy as to motivation. Was it f-ed up belief system or egomania? Stay tuned....

Thank you for clearing up the fact that the after-life is a matter of opinion.

anonymous,

The afterlife is a matter of opinion, just like Never Never Land.

And yet, how do Christians know god DIDN'T tell her to kill her children?

By the context, this is apparently speaking of the time of the New Covenant, Christ:
Jeremiah 31:29-30, NKJV
-----------------------------------
In those days they shall say no more:
‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes,
And the children’s teeth are set on edge.’
But every one shall die for his own iniquity; every man who eats the sour grapes, his teeth shall be set on edge.
-----------------------------------
Christ ended this type of justice once and for all by being the Son of man sacrificed for man. I concede that I don't understand it from a historical perspective any more than a contemporary one, but this matters much less to me than the total evidence in the other direction.

For a discussion of the insensitivity of the psalm from a Christian perspective, see http://www.calvincrc.org/sermons/topics/psalms/psalm137.html

For the general debate over the Bible, see Josh McDowell's New Evidence That Demands a Verdict.

Ahhh, so Gods rules changed! He IS arbitrary after all.

Thanx for clearing that up. As for me personally, Ill stick to non arbitrary reality.

Woops. It looks like I get an F on this question.

The proverb quoted in Jeremiah 31:29-30 was not a valid one, but an excuse for irresponsibility. See http://www.biblicaltheology.com/eze/eze_18_01.html for an in-depth explanation of Ezekiel 18:1-20, which also addresses the proverb.

Ahhh, yes. Good old Ezekiel 18. My favorite verse is 18:6, where God tells us that a man is just and right if, among other things, he has not been hanging around women who are menstruating. That surely is excellent advice that is totally relevant to Deanna Laney's infanticide case!

I sure hope that Deanna wasnt menstruating when she sent her babies to heaven! That would have been a big no-no.

this story was extremly horrific she was obviously had some deeper mental issues.im not a christian my self but im sure their are good christians out their ones that dont take the bible so lierly.although all the christians i have ever known where reborn again christians that were bad people that had done so many bad things that eventually started to feel guilty.i find that most of these reborn again christians are fall of crap and most likely dangerous people maybe its just the ones i know.i have a mother in law who i beleive has the potential to be like the woman above as she once told me that she beleivd i had demons in me and has just recently started txting me and my partner saying that god is comeing for us i gueass i found this a little odd as she was txting it at 3am.the odd thing is shes an extremly bad person but calls her self a christian so its ok?

First I must say that I have a strong and abiding belif in Christ. But this back and forth on religion is not the issue. (How do you of little faith know that God did tell this women to kill her children??)
What she did was murder, it was unlawfull for her to take the lives of those young boys. But hey since we are gonna go along with her and shift the blame somewhere other than her let's give every group it's fair shake.
Texas is to blame, there's alot of crazies out there it seems. Oh and let's not forget the white race as a whole maybe she wouldn't have done it if she hadn't thought she'd get off lightly. Most importantly her husband...he didn't wonder what was taking her so long to get backk to bed.
My favorite part is this, she claims that God told her to snuff out the light of her children with the use of signs but she didn't she her husband coming in to see what was going on as a sign from God that her faith had been tested and proved and she no longer need to continue. Abraham was asked to sacrifce his son but God did send an Angel down to prevent it and Issac lived. So, taking this last 'sign' into consideration she was not doing God's will 'cuase just as clearly as her other signs he told her to STOP.

Ok, so why would God ask anyone to murder their children?? God sacrificed his son Jesus to cleanse us from our sins, that was Jesus' purpose according to the Bible right? What purpose were those poor boys gonna serve by their idiot mother killing them? I think people who follow religions and books to the "T" are wrong for doing so, especially when they follow exerts from the Bible that speak of murdering their young. You know, sometimes I think we should start having punishments like they do in other countries like cutting off of a hand, eye for an eye. Hey, you stone your kids to death so your sentence is stoning to death as well you crazy b#@%! I bet there will be a lot less people committing these or any other type of crimes. I love my Country but gosh darn it we are too lenient.

Have a good day everyone... and don't go killing your kids just because you think the voices in your head told you to, see a shrink!!!
