The concept of an afterlife is inhumane and immoral. Belief in the continuation of your "soul" or consciousness after death is wishful thinking. Belief in an afterlife devalues the one life that actually exists: this one.
I am reminded of the SouthPark eposide where Cartman makes a Christian band "Faith +1" and he has a song with the following lyrics:"I wanna get down on my knees and please Jesus. I wanna feel his salvation all over my face!"
