The pilot panicked and panic has been the cause of many deaths, as when there is a fire in a crowded building, but in this case the fact that after panicking he prayed proves that prayer kills. The pilot, possibly because of his panic, chose to crash-land the plane instead of trying to reach a nearby airport, but that decision did not cause any deaths. The fact that after panicking he prayed is what caused the deaths.
